The 17th China International Chorus Festival was held in Beijing from July 15 to 19, 2024. Recognized as one of the largest international choral festivals in the Asia-Pacific region, the event brought together more than 15,000 participants from 306 choirs, representing 31 countries and regions worldwide, as well as 28 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities across China, including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Over five days, the festival presented 212 activities across 13 program areas, including performances, adjudicated showcases, artistic exchanges, educational programs, professional forums and community outreach.
NeoVoce Philharmonic Choir participated in the Mixed Choir and Folk Music categories, receiving a Silver Award, a Bronze Award, and the Peace and Friendship Award. The choir also presented a concert during the festival, showcasing the artistic progress, performance capabilities and future potential it had developed within its first year.
As part of the visit, Artistic Director and Conductor Dr. Leo Li arranged an exchange with the Beijing Kalinka Choir, led by renowned conductor Yang Lele. NeoVoce members observed a rehearsal by this inspiring senior choir, whose average age exceeds 75, and received guidance and feedback from Ms. Yang. The Kalinka Choir’s disciplined rehearsal process and energetic singing left a lasting impression, reinforcing the importance of strong musical foundations and consistent training.
On the evening of July 18, NeoVoce members attended concerts by the Philharmonic Male Choir and the Inner Mongolia Art Theatre Choir. Dr. Leo Li also led several members in observing the two ensembles’ stage rehearsals and concert preparations, providing valuable insight into the professional performance process.
The Beijing journey gave the then one-year-old NeoVoce Philharmonic Choir an opportunity to present its artistry on an international platform. It also broadened members’ artistic perspectives and provided valuable experience in international competition, performance and cultural exchange. Inspired by the experience, NeoVoce remains committed to strengthening its musical foundations, advancing its artistic standards and continuing its development as an outstanding choral ensemble.
